Event Description

Want to improve the experience of travelling by train with bicycles, for both cyclists and non-cyclists?

Book your space

London Midland and CycleHack HQ invite you to a creative day to explore travelling by train with a bicycle. Working together, we want to make travelling with bikes more enjoyable for cyclists, non-cyclists and staff. The London Midland CycleHack Challenge will be a full day of ideas, action and experimentation.

CycleHack events are energetic, active sessions where people come up with ideas and start to build them. We are looking for both cyclists and non-cyclists to improve cycling by sharing their ideas and experiences.

The day includes:

  • Lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day.
  • A chance to meet and collaborate with new people who care about improving traveling with a bicycle.
  • Vouchers sent to you in advance for free travel on London Midland trains to and from the event.

What is CycleHack?

CycleHack is a global movement on a mission to make the world more sustainable by reducing the barriers to cycling. CycleHack draws people together to generate solutions to enable them to cycle in their neighbourhoods with ease.

What happens at a CycleHack Challenge?

People from all sorts of backgrounds and skills come together around a specific challenge. Hands-on research exercises, collaboration and testing your ideas out in the real world. Previous experience on the topic is not necessary, just bring your enthusiasm!

What is London Midland?

London Midland is a major train operating company. Since 2007, the company has run train services throughout the West Midlands into Birmingham, London and to Liverpool. London Midland’s 173 trains, 2558 employees make over 75 million customer passenger journeys each year.

What is Labs by London Midland?

Labs by London Midland is based at Aston University in the heart of Birmingham, set up to leverage technology to improve the customer experience. We do this by developing technology partnerships, harnessing technological innovations and with an accelerator programme to fast track start-ups in the market. Improving customer experience is the sole focus of the initiative utilising employee and customer research to identify primary areas of focus, ensuring customer needs remain at the heart of all future developments. Labs is a first in the UK rail industry.

I've been to a previous Labs event at Icentrum and it was very interesting but that was about Apps, start ups etc. Be good to see if we can contribute to better integrated transport and taking cycles on train. Used to be great in the days of the guards van when I could take a loaded Galaxy to Euston for free.

Hi @Dave,

This event will be different for the Demo Days that we run as part of the Innovation programme at LM Labs.

It will be of a joint workshop with LM staff and customer to understand the challenges we face and how do we improve them for the cycling community.

Look forward to seeing you at the event.
