Cycling in and around Birmingham England
In Cambridge Street, at the rear of Baskerville house, the surface around a hydrant cover has worn away, leaving an exposed metal "step" which is hazardous to cyclists.
I reported this to Birmingham City Council on 11 March:

but it's still not fixed; and the condition of the surface is worsening.
BCC or their agents did put white paint round it, but it's been so long that that's wearing away.

Gospel Lane in B28/B92 is awash with faults of this kind, since the bad winter BEFORE THE LAST ONE!! I've reported them several times, we've seen 3 or 4 out of at least 50 individual hazards patched up.
I noted a lack of response to these hazards from both Solihull and Birmingham councils for around 18 months now, whereas before action was reasonably swift. No doubt, budget cuts will be blamed.
This, surely, must be the tip of the iceberg.

Permalink Reply by CKS on September 12, 2011 at 20:10 People must know that number plates like this are illegal but the police rarely do anything about them.
They could issue FPNs and use the money to fund more cycle lanes!
Permalink Reply by Ken Davidson on September 13, 2011 at 8:42 The MoT tester must also be in the cabbies 'pocket' - as this is a fail. And aren't black cabs licensed and inspected by BCC as well?
I don't know about funding cycle lanes, just funnel the FPN money into fixing the sodding potholes! ;)

Who's to say those plates were on the cab when it had its MoT or was inspected by BCC?

Permalink Reply by CKS on September 14, 2011 at 8:12 There used to be an MOT tester in Balsall Heath known as 'Tommy' because he'd have to have been deaf, dumb and blind to pass some of the cars that he did. Perhaps he's still in business?
