Permalink Reply by Donna Norford on February 22, 2012 at 12:50 I contacted Steve McCabe by email about 2 weeks ago. He wrote back to me via a formal addresssed letter to my home address. Although in his letter he said he supported the campaigne, & responded positively with regard to cyclying safety & general road safety. I note that he has not signed & didn't say that he would be attending the debate.

Permalink Reply by LS on February 22, 2012 at 17:28 Roger Godsiff supports the Times campaign. His name wasn't on the EDM list a couple of days ago though.
Permalink Reply by Robert on February 22, 2012 at 17:41 There may be something awry with that list at Early Day Motion 2689. Steve McCabe has emailed me to say he has signed the EDM but he is not on the list either.
Permalink Reply by LS on February 23, 2012 at 12:30 Today's debate in Parliament starting at 2.30 looks like it will be available here - http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Player.aspx?meetingId=10088
I sat through all 3 hours of the debate. A lot of good points well made, c 75 MPs turned up to support cycling and most wanted to speak. Impact of letters from cyclists and cycling groups to MPs was very evident. Norman Baker was well meaning but fairly bland in response but there is a cross party consensus to support the Times campaign and many MPs showed genuine commitment and knowledge. Lots of references to CTC's Safety in Numbers campaign which seems to have perculated through the parliamentary conciousness.

Permalink Reply by Robert on February 24, 2012 at 9:21 Steve McCabe emailed me to say he had signed, but he still isn't on the EDM web page. I have queried him about this but received no response. One of them is being economical with the truth.
So far I'm about a third of the way through the debate, and so far it seems positive, though there is a lot of waffle to sit through. Do they really all have to take a minute to individually congratulate The Times? However, with no Birmingham MPs on the EDM and Lynne Jones complaining of a lack of leadership (on cycling) at BCC, I do wonder if we'll see any change in Birmingham.

The link showed that 67 MPs had signed and that none were from Birmingham. The closest was Valerie Vaz of Walsall South.Andrew Mitchell told me he is not allowed to sign EDMs as he is a govt minister. How about the rest of the Birmngham's MPs?
