Cycling in and around Birmingham England
I've got a couple of charity rides coming up this year which go through or round the Cotswolds. Was just wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions for places to go and ride up a few big hills/ get something nice to eat somewhere?
Also if anyone fancies coming along for a ride around the lanes let me know!

Is that the MacRide?
Mucklow is not steep enough, its just a one mile 'inconvenient incline'.
Weatheroak is not long enough, its a 'short honk'.
But with Rose Hill, Waterfall Lane, Charlemont Rd, Hampstead Hill and Boot Hill included in the loop, that could be a nice training ride.
Try the A38 from Weeford to Canwell Caravans. Start in a low gear, then repeat the circuit from the A5 to Bassetts Pole in progressively higher gears. Don't forget to leave some energy for the ride home through Sutton Coldfield and over Barr Beacon.
Unfortunately, "Hills in Birmingham" is an oxymoron.

thanks guys, lots of climbs to aim for then.
james, they are some pretty small cogs!
Phillip, the climb to Broadway tower is the main one on the route I'm doing in september. looking at the elevation graph of that section made me think I need to do some more hill training! most of my routes are udulating at best so just want to get in a few rides which will challenge me before the long ride itself. will try the clents and probably a jaunt into Broadway one day to check it out.
not sure I'm ready for Latif's though
i'm doing the shakespeare 100km in april which is an earlier version of the MacRide I think.
The one I'm doing in September is a memorial ride for my brother from Birmingham to Weymouth in 2 days. more details on ridetoweymouth.com if you're interested. think that's gonna be a real challenge.
also doing Wolverhampton to Aberdovey in June which is a 100 miler so should be pretty fit by the end of the year!
Contact North Birmingham CTC ( Simon of this Parish ) about their Audax rides on 22nd April. 100km, 160km and 200km, from Shenstone, nr Lichfield. 200km 'Castleton Classic' is an Audax BRM Paris-Brest-Paris qualifier.
I can't go on these this year, I'm supposed to be riding to Geneva.

Permalink Reply by David Cooper on January 30, 2012 at 15:45 Also, riding the Shakespeare 100 on April 1st. Had email to say not many spaces left if anyone fancies a nice ride out.
Hopefully that won't be as breezy as the September ride having to pedal downhill out of Temple Grafton was not much fun no 'wheeeeeeing' down hill that day!!
I couldn't believe it.
The AUK 100 "Rutland and Beyond' has 1290m of climbing. It was deceptively 'flat'.
12th March. There should be places left to Pay & Play. You can follow me.
