Cycling in and around Birmingham England

Anybody fancy one of these? It might look as though it's been knocked together by the Birmingham Bike Foundry but it's actually been designed for polar conditions. Just the thing for winter commuting!

Permalink Reply by Ken Davidson on January 5, 2012 at 16:54 I think gearhubs experience problems with low temperatures, since they rely on close tolerances internally - the casings etc. contract, and the lubricant gets thicker.
I'm a fan of enclosed gears but in this case the lesser of two evils to use 'open' gears.
They could possibly do with the extra few percentage points of efficiency too, considering how much those tyres will drag. ;)
