Cycling in and around Birmingham England
Hi all.
For those of you whom have smart phones I'm sure that you are well aware of the GPS tracking functions. I have until now been using My Track by Google to record some of my rides. However, yesterday I came across another app called Sports Tracker, it appears to have much of the functionality but with a few extras thrown in. For example, if you go for a ride and take pictures it will show you exactly where you were at the time of taking it. It will even show you what song you were listening to at each stage of you ride so that you can see how your choice of music affects you pace.
Anyway, for those interested here's a link to their website (they have videos on here). It's completely free, has no adverts and is available on both Android and IOS.
Regards,
Lucas
Ps. Here's one of mine as an example.

I had a Garmin Edge 605.
On my ride along the A45 approaching the M42 junction from Coventry, it displays
"Keep right on
Coventry Road"
How did it know I'm a Blues fan?????
Permalink Reply by Lucas on February 6, 2012 at 9:49 I agree that a dedicated unit may be better, my point of mentioning the app is that it is free for anyone already having a smartphone. Therefore, it could save them a few hundred pounds. As for the battery, I guess it does depend on the particular phone. I recorded this one on an older phone, which didn't have a great battery, but still lasted for the duration of the ride (nearly 7 hours) and I still used the phone without charging it until the evening. I think that this would be more than enough for most people, perhaps if you're routinely riding more than 100 miles you wouldn't mind paying the money.
Anyway, see for yourself.

I went on a Vintage event.
My Garmin was in a back pocket recording the ride, as 1970s racebikes didn't have SatNavs.
