Cycling in and around Birmingham England

Another cyclist hit on The Russell Rd, Queensbridge Rd roundabout at about 8.30 this morning.this morning.  She was on the roundabout and someone exiting from Moor Green lane just drove into her.

Police and ambulance in attendance.  Spoke to her later today and she is OK.

Poor woman - glad she's OK.

Ditto.

I was almost wiped out on Poets Corner on Tuesday. Again. White van man was slowing slightly and looking in front and behind me but not at me. I raised my arm to wave thanks as I was about 2 foot from his side window which seemed to startle him. I've started treating all islands as if any driver joining it could be French and forgetful.

Golden Hillock? Or is there a Poets Corner on Russell Road?

Yes Golden Hillock. If it didn't take twice as long as the roads I would encourage everyone to cycle on the pavements all of the time until conditions are made safer.

Darn! I was hoping to hear of a plethora of poetry corners!

Crossing Poets Corner from north to south (Small Heath to Sparkhill/Sparkbrook) isn't too bad - I do that crossing most days, and visibility is pretty good.  Crossing it in other directions seems to be more troublesome, and so I don't it in reverse.

If there's not too much traffic I pretend that I'm playing rounders and try to get from each base (central reservation) to the next before I get caught out.  If the traffic is heavy then I just wheel my bike across the pedestrian lights.

I am very sorry to hear this and so glad she is OK . I hope something will be done to make cycling safer on Russell rd before something else happens .

I quali at the thought of cycling across Poets corner - it's not even a corner. We need more eyes ( as do some drivers - and maybe they need the will to use them )
