Cycling in and around Birmingham England
I've been convinced that there is a virtual hill on the Harborne Walkway for some time now and today I found it. I found myself having to pedal to maintain speed going 'downhill' at this section:
However, when I looked back I actually realized that I was going uphill:
I could almost hear the 'Twilight Zone' music in the background!
I reckon the wind direction was more important than the gradient today...
As I rode this same path today I was thinking of you for this very reason. It's uphill in both directions up to the variable geometry tunnel.
A highwayman's paradise.
For years, the stretch heading east between Bell End (snigger) and Bell Heath caught me out. Ignoring the obvious short up as you leave Bell End, the road is straight and appears to be perfectly flat. I would always be surprised at how slowly I would be going. As I was generally on my way back from somewhere, I just put it down to me being more tired than I had thought I was.
I had a similar experience cycling from Brecon on the A470 towards Libanus. I put it down to the pint of Welsh I had had with a very filling meal in a nice pub in Brecon.
keith Tween, who organises "Friends of Edgbason Reservoir" is trying to establish a group, "Friends of Harborne walkway". He has done good work, pestering BCC to pick up rubbish, remove fallen trees etc.
If you are interested in joining The Friends (membership is free), please send an e-mail to email@example.com to be kept informed.
