Cycling in and around Birmingham England

This should be an interesting discussion.

I have been trying to work out exactly what my dream bike woukd be.

I have a few ideas.

I think I'd be looking for a light road bike/tourer with disc brakes not sure which make as yet. Likely to want hub dynamo lights too.

As you see I'm still forming my ideas on this at present.

Any other views woul be useful to help med get some ideas. Though doubt I'll ever be able to afford it.

Shed?

Heated /carpeted garage. Spot lights trained onto each shining example of pure beauty hanging from the bespoke hooks next to the TV - set up for roller training during these miserable months. No not the front room the wife would kill me!!

Did manage to get out on my Pinarello on Sunday - still cleaning each spoke and chain link!!

This is my dream bike - 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears and hub brakes that actually work in the wet. It's even got Dutch text on the frame!

Unfortunately I'm unwilling to make a £150 starting bid for something that's sold as seen (or in this case sold as unseen).

I have to agree with the "shed" comments above. I would want a different bike for various purposes. A top end hard tail MTB would be very nice, as would a vintage Dutch sit up and beg bike.

My road bike was supposed to be a work in progress - I selected the Focus Cayo as the frame was originally on the Focus Izalco Team bikes used by Team Milram in professional racing in the recent past, I'm led to believe. The plan is to upgrade to some handmade wheels next, probably from Paul Hewitt and then slowly upgrade the other bits over time. I have become obsessed with the "right" saddle and have just ordered a Fizik Arione as I hear nothing but good things about them.

I think I will probably draw the line at the gearing and brakes and wait for Di2 to come down in price over the next 3 - 5 years and then get something with some fancy futuristic electronic shifting on it when I am ready to upgrade to a more competitive machine.

That aside, I continue to look out for a classic Raleigh racing bike frame in Reynolds 531 tubing for some fixed gear fun. Unfortunately, I have not got the space for more than three bikes so I'll stick with what I have for the time being!
