Cycling in and around Birmingham England

This new raised path has been open for a couple of weeks now. Does anyone know why barriers have been used when there used to be a bollard? Is it to slow cyclists down? Also why are they painted black?

They were being removed again this morning!  Apparently they are being replaced with a different design.  the excitement is palpable

I hope it's not coming out of the BCR budget to install something unnecessary three times.

I hope this isn't my fault for saying we could get a trike through it... :)

Watch out for the narrow gutter at the pavement end.

They look to be the same sort of size but are now hinged (and padlocked)

Version 3

The only reason I can see for that change is to allow for a vehicle to be driven up the path.

Tighter than Mk2 (which was my favourite) so I guess they fail the Trike Test. I haven't spotted the padlocks, but stopping, opening, riding through, stopping, closing isn't that simple an operation.

I think they are a lot tighter now.  Almost had a clipless moment going South yesterday.  Will be trying it on the tandem over the weekend

they are tighter, you can see from the concreting underneath that they are significantly wider than the previous barriers.

Not locked though, just bolts, so someone with a couple of spanners might be able to widen the gap, shall we say.
