David replied to John KIRK's discussion 'Where exactly was this ?'
Oops. Duplication noted. The entire scene is pretty fabulous - in the archaic sense. It is of another time - and one would think, another place. But that girl may still be around here, and if so, I wonder what she would say about then and now.

This'll be the link then. Am thinking Mr Spudnik is unable to explain his concerns, and may need lessons in elocution - alongside Mr Johnstone. Note also CC has slipped in a typo.

Result! I would have though Rob Johnston would be required to take the language test again.

Sarah-Jane Watkinson replied to David's discussion 'Queensbridge road'
Unfortunately, it looks as though it refers to a specific event and isn't intended as an ongoing thing. I cycled past Chamberlain House the other week and the gates were open, there were two cars parked there and the whole of Queensbridge Road…

David replied to Aiden McHaffie's discussion 'steel stockholders in Brum'
the place I go to is a stockist between the railway line and the scrapyard. I don't recall the name, and I think they only sell flat stock, but are very good source for buying offcuts

I'm not concerned about the guys in vans. They are usually regulars, and have some to lose. I'd be more concerned about this sort of thing: All Sandwell’s metal drain covers to be replaced And about people in less noticeable vehicles…

Graham, I've got one mounted outside my door. A big a vice as your pa would have wanted. And it's only 6 minutes walk.

David replied to Philip Eddington's discussion 'This puts a new spin on cycling to work I guess'
I just don't know how anyone can cycle and type at the same time... And I'd always be looking for cars coming along behind.

Crest of School Road, Moseley, between Cotton Lane and Ashfield, particularly when one is about to make a right turn into either of them, and some speed freak comes belting over the hill while I am preparing to turn.

Kim replied to David's discussion 'Blinking Headlamps'
Indeed.  Most clipless pedals, recumbents, bikes with panniers on the rear rack and so on aren't legal at night. I take a pragmatic approach and try to comply with the spirit, if not the letter, of this law, in so far as it is possible (a…

Ian Ingram replied to David's discussion 'Blinking Headlamps'
It doesn't work, they are not legal to ride at night. I'm just saying what the law is and leave it up to you all to make your own call on what you want to do. I have the same pedals and standard SPD's neither have reflectors and I use…

Ian Wacogne replied to David's discussion 'Blinking Headlamps'
I often get followed - and sometimes overtaken - by someone with a really strong front flash, and I have to say that I find it quite distracting; it blinks off the road signs etc and makes me think more about his cycling than mine.  Which,…

The paper, the online appendix, videos, and the companion historical study are at:…
