The Shimano Nexus 8 hasn't got a very good service record. A lot of complaits about 'losing' gears.

Bike fitting in shops varies in quality from great to downright injurious. Takes a least an hour to do it right, so don't go on a Saturday to a shop when what they are trying to do is sell bikes.
