Pavement Cycling Now Legal?

Local rag had a letter claiming cycling on the pavement was "now" legal. I'm not aware of any recent change in the law, although there's plenty of grey area, eg:If path is signed as shared use (bike…Continue

"The cycle paths on Clevedon Road and Longmore Street feel nice to cycle because it removes cyclists from all the congestion on the road but they are the wrong side of the footpath, pedestrians walk between cyclists and cars and they are forever…"

Leon Lewis replied to James Avery's discussion Pavement Cycling Now Legal?
"I'm not surprised so many cyclists use the pavement. If cyclists were defined clearly as road users then it would be a problem. Instead, cyclists are directed on and off pavements, told to dismount, told to ride on the road, told to stop for…"

"I used to give my son a lift to school on my bike rack,  riding on the pavement. Often seen by police but never stopped. Always gave way to pedestrians. 8mph max. "

James Lee replied to James Avery's discussion Pavement Cycling Now Legal?
"This is another ‘sound of a tree falling in a forest’ scenarios. If no-one is there to hear it fall, does it make a noise? A scientist will say “of course it does. It must follow the laws of physics.” A bloke sat in his…"

James Avery replied to Darren Cash's discussion We simply don't have enough space for Dutch style cycle lanes.
"No, you are lazy of the intellectual kind. Not only that, if you seriously go out campaigning with these views (babies have no intellect so we'll steal their dummies), you will do us all a great dis-service. Taking people away from their cars…"

James Avery replied to Darren Cash's discussion We simply don't have enough space for Dutch style cycle lanes.
"Maybe roads very quiet at that time, but not sure about the return. I went there in the rain once, never felt to threatened by large HGVs and cars doing what the road signs allow them to do. It is complete madness."

James Avery replied to Darren Cash's discussion We simply don't have enough space for Dutch style cycle lanes.
"I tried objecting to this scheme, but to no avail. Not the fact they are laying on buses - that's fine with me, although it surprises me they can't find parking, given the amount of (real) space at Gaydon! I objected because these buses…"

James Avery replied to Bracken Van Ryssen's discussion Solihull Bicycle Campaign
"This is where things are in Solihull as it currently stands. I just happened to be passing by JLR when I saw the application for the new car park, so I made written representations, but the whole thing was a waste of time as the committee…"

James Avery replied to Rich22222's discussion Ride on Birmingham - Flash Ride - Next Sunday 1st September 10am Victoria Square

James Avery replied to John K's discussion Birmingham fails again ?
"Well to keep this in context, my understanding is that the DfT was offering a pot of £42m for these bids, but that they had to be match funded. So for that reason alone, Coventry didn't even have a go. Given the current state of…"

James Avery replied to LS's discussion Greener, Faster, Fitter

James Avery replied to Simon's discussion North Birmingham C2 cycle routes
"Just on a brief technical point re: route numbering, as this came up for the new Cycle Coventry routes on Tuesday. Sustrans want to use their national numbering scheme, which looks like the case here. I'm arguing for a much simpler local…"
