Laura replied to LS's discussion Edgbaston Tunnel Tow Path Widening
"I assumed the cost was being fronted by CRT as the studies weren't just about cyclists but also foot traffic (though someone may have more info).  Given how long the Bristol Road cycleway has been delayed and that this route isn't…"

"CRT have already done a study, I can't remember the exact figures but it was quite clear that the towpath traffic far outweighed the canal boat traffic - which anyone who uses that area would be able to back up.  They were also planning a…"

Laura replied to LS's discussion Edgbaston Tunnel Widening
"It was a few months ago I spoke to CRT about the plans but they were looking for solutions that would allow better flow of traffic on the towpath. At the moment the tunnel can take two barges passing side my side but they were well aware that barges…"

Laura replied to LS's discussion Edgbaston Tunnel Widening
"Fantastic news! Agreed, not so much whilst the work is going on, but certainly when it's finished - looking forward to not having to get off to walk through or deal with impatient cyclists/walkers who don't wait at the other end like…"

"Approach with caution is definitely my school of thinking. But I do this whilst walking too, as there have been several occasions when someone has nearly bumped into me in town because they've been too engrossed in their phones to look where…"

"I'd like to add the special branch of pedestrians who have headphones in whilst looking at screens. Not only are they not paying attention to other people using the canal, they're often not paying any attention to the large body of open…"

Laura replied to Shivaji Shiva's discussion Towpath Etiquette ...
"Appreciate it's not for everyone, but I some of us quite like commuting to work along the towpath (could do with a wider Edgbaston Tunnel path, but that's on the way according to CRT). I would very much like to see segregated cycleways and…"

"I've been thinking about towpath etiquette for a while too.  I'm one of those people that likes to use my bell a lot and thank people for moving in, mainly because when I'm walking along the canal I find it really helpful.…"

"I think it is just the way they are.  I tend to go there rather than the MAC for snackage as I favour a sausage and egg sandwich over organic goat's cheese but beware if there are more than two orders.  They are fine for tea and buns"

"Yeah, I've lead rides from there in the past that have been delayed by the speed of hot food, though I attributed it to the proliferation of Parkrun types."

James Russell replied to Laura's discussion Cycle/cyclist friendly venues
"I was there, and noted that you were struggling.  They are really good for cakes, coffee and ice cream. I don't think they have the staff to handle large numbers of hot food orders."

"After Saturday I'm saying that the Garden Room in Cannon Hill Park should be off the list of places worth a visit.  Group of hungry cyclists roll up, order simple food such as beans on toast, egg on toast, etc and then have to wait over an…"
