Max speed on the road?

Hi all, I have set myself a target of 50mph on my road bike, with a near-term target of 45mph. I often reach speeds in excess of 40mph, at the moment 42.6mph is the most I've achieved on my new bike…Continue

You should be fine. I would recommend that you set off early with the first group and thus give yourself plenty of time to complete it without rushing. I done my first one last year which was 104miles. The furthest single ride I had done prior to…

I wonder if it was a post-graduate project?  Marks are awarded for originality and not necessarily practicality.

I went on a Vintage event. My Garmin was in a back pocket recording the ride, as 1970s racebikes didn't have SatNavs.

I agree that a dedicated unit may be better, my point of mentioning the app is that it is free for anyone already having a smartphone. Therefore, it could save them a few hundred pounds. As for the battery, I guess it does depend on the particular…

I had a Garmin Edge 605. On my ride along the A45 approaching the M42 junction from Coventry, it displays "Keep right on   Coventry Road"   How does it know I'm a Blues fan?????

i use a garmin 205, GPS on a smartphone will drain the battery quickly and the garmin will go for 10hrs or so and then you can use the GPX file in any capable device, i use endomondo too the challenges on there are fun

Loving Strava - enables you to choose parts of your ride to compete against yourself or others, and really handy for tracking total miles, climb etc

I use Ride With GPS with my Gamin Edge 705 I think it gives a pretty good report with decent mapping etc. It even shows the National Cycle Network Routes if you choose the OSM cycle map in the mapping options in the top right dropdown menu. I know…

I used to use Sports Tracker when I had a Nokia and it was pretty good, sadly it wasn't available on Android when I got my current phone so I use Endomondo at the moment

I sometimes see cyclemeter tweets pop up where it says "Started ride with cyclemeter..... Cyclemeter will speak your replies to me". I'm always tempted to reply e.g. Go Toby Go! or maybe some song lyrics.

I'm occasionally use Mapmyride+ on android, which is all very similar, apart from it doesn't have the music link, although it does show the elevation of the route and you can also share your live route and position on facebook/twitter (if…

London to Paris 2012.

Hi, having taking part in the Warwick 100 earlier this year I am considering doing the London to Paris ride next year (I was ready for it this year as I've only just bought my new bike) for a children's charity. There's a fundraising target of £1400 but the registration fee is only £99.

I'm just wondering if any of you have done this ride before and if so how did you find the fundraising? I'm considering doing it with a couple of friends and having spoken to the charity it is…

New Bike Today!!!! Keep the 105 or go for Ultegra?

Hi all, I'm new to Birmingham Cyclist although I'm not new to cycling in Birmingham.

I've had a cheap road bike which has served me well so far, I bought some new wheels and gears after about 600 miles as the others were a little worn. Since then it's given me another 1100 miles and seems to be going strong. I'm upgrading because I want something faster, lighter and more agile.

I've gone for a Trek 2.5 compact, I test rode it and it was more than what I was…
