"Maybe when they get round to widening the tunnel towpath they'll rewire and fit new lights at the same time. But that's obviously too logical for BCC and Cllr Tahir Ali. Give me a hammer and a screw driver and I could do a better job than…"

"As some of you know by now the lights are out again.   Someone has reported being injured riding through the dark tunnel.   BCC is responsible for maintaining the lights, and Tahir Ali is responsible cabinet member.  …"

"LED lights wouldn't really make a difference. LED is guaranteed for 25 years but the driver will last a lot less than that. I suspect the lights are wired in two circuits. Each circuit may have one fault on it, a faulty ballast or igniter in…"

"Perhaps the lights are shorting-out because of damp?  200 year old tunnel roofs aren't particularly water-proof."

"I'm no lighting expert but wouldn't it be worth changing to LED? My kitchen lights are going to last 25 years allegedly."

"A quick update: I have had a letter dated 3 July (rec'd today - 9 July) from Cllr Huxtable (Bournville) to say Paul O'Day has responded but have not yet received that response. Meanwhile, I have received the message below from the Canal…"

"A couple at the south end seemed not to be.  But there were enough to see by, which is the main thing. Maybe it's a work in progress?"

"Thanks, Shivaji. Someone also raised the issue at the Cycle Forum (which technically speaking was yesterday evening). The more people who contact their councillors, the more pressure is applied to getting the lights fixed. Needless to say my own…"

"Had the same problem with the Curzon St Tunnel which broke in 2013.  After being passed around between departments was told they are too expensive too fix!"

"Of course they don't have to fix the light bulb.  They could opt to run a wide segregated cycleway with priority at all the junctions down the Bristol Road instead."

About me
I started cycling to work in March 2012. Much better than the train - literally a breath of fresh air! I tend to use the Worcester & Birmingham Canal towpath a lot.
