No that is a canal! The ped' underpass uses ramps and stairs from the pavemnt next to Tyburn Road, Lichfield Road and  Birmingham Road to access the island under spag junction. Using these you can exit the island in a number of…

I'd love to know how come he was not charged with attempt murder for this. All I can say is what an idiot.  I wonder if the charge would have been different if the cyclist had gone under the bus. If Hil had got out and smacked him with a…

I have heard that a five pound not wrapped around the tube will work too. Never tried it always too skint. No I carry a spare. I tape my tube to the frame with insulation tape so I can just switch my tool pack from bike to bike as needed.…

I have now acquired a pretty decent light from Lights Lights Lights. O ring fitting so easily swappable from one bike ot another. Very bright at 1500 lumen. A good solid beam that seems to go on for ever. So light too at about 340 grammes…

I think Tim is getting to the nub of a problem on our roads.  More signage, more advetising, more in-car gizmos to fiddle with.  It seems that there is ever more 'stuff' to distract the motorist and thus allow a ton and a…

Tim Beasley replied to Philip Eddington's discussion 'Ghost bikes similar to those in London'
One of the issues with warnings, whether symbolic like the ghost bikes or "slow" painted on the road (or "araf" in Wales) is the visual overload of information. Accidents will occur due to inattention on the part of road users…

I didn't know that.  Anyway, it does something to prevent a similar accident and gives an indication of its cause, unlike a ghost bike.

Apologies James, you are correct. The data is supplied by the police so yes it is only reported incidents.

My crash on Campden Lane, Willersey ( down the hill ) is not on that map. Nor is the hole in the hedge :-) Nor is my 'off' at Olton Hollow. That was a hospital case. Nor is my 'ambulance call-out' in Tidbury…

I can't really see any meaningful pattern.   Two cyclists seriously injured in Wyatt Close?   I did see an earlier accident map on this site and there were patterns, but that was a map of all RTAs.

The cycle accident map here, shows all cycling accidents between 2005-2010. Perhaps this map can be used to identify dangerous areas for cyclists.

In France I have seen roadside signs indicating where accidents have happened. Presumably the French version of DfT place these Anthony Gormley-esque profiles of people where there have been accidents with injuries, with a red cross through the head…

James Lee replied to Philip Eddington's discussion 'Ghost bikes similar to those in London'
When one drives or rides along a road, and then one sees the word "SLOW" painted across the carriageway, this means that 100m further ahead, there has been a fatal RTA.   On approach to the canal bridge in Catherine-de-Barnes, the…

Robert replied to Philip Eddington's discussion 'Ghost bikes similar to those in London'
One of the things that worries me all the time when I'm driving is the fact that cyclists disappear behind street furniture like no other road user.   Even if one looks twice something like a set of railings can obscure a cyclist…

This is a very Emotive subject personally I think their is nothing sadder than a street memorial with dead flowers over it. All that says is someone died here a while ago and we no longer care. I do agree with the previous post on a number of points…

Philip Eddington replied to Philip Eddington's discussion 'Ghost bikes similar to those in London'
Both good points well made. Perhaps instead we could get BCC to put up a bit of signage to warn drivers to be prepared for cyclists. Or perhaps signage to warn cyclists of the dangers in a particular area. It would be nice to think that we would…

About me
40 a bit over weight even though do spin classes 3 time a week. I really miss getting otu on my bike. I used to ride in Cannock Chase or the Paek District nearly every weekend but I havn't done that for years. I'd love to get back to it. I have a very desk bound job and as my other half work near to my office and our daughter goes to school near ther too I drive to work now rather than ride but I was intending to ride the 4 mile to work now the weather is better but I doubt I'll be able too.
