How to stop cars parking in cycle lanes

This short stretch of cycle lane in Bordesley Green ALWAYS used to have cars parked in it despite it being well signposted and marked...

People park there because they don't want to pay for the hospital car park or park legally a bit further away and walk. I pointed out the cycle lane sign to the driver of the green jag who pointed at the other cars, I asked if this made it ok? he replied "yes" and walked off.

The other day I turned the corner and was surprised to see it completely empty of cars until I noticed the signs stuck on every post...

I hope the Jag was one of them.

Print your own notice and stick it up, Dave! It's not anyone's actually going to ring the police and check with them.

Hi All,
My first tentative toe dipped in this forum. As Dave rightly says the cars outside the Orthapedic on the cycle lanes are a problem, but I don't think they're actually commiting any offence believe it or not. See my footage of it here: http://www.massivemtber.co.uk/?p=60 and the comments made by the folk who read my Blog.
Cheers
Clive

There were 5 or 6 at 9am. People think there's safety in numbers, there's no sign at the top of the cycle lane so once a couple of cars park others will follow. I will see if there's any tickets tomorrow.

Ring if you're passing again around lunchtime and ill come out for a spin although I was in the bank @ Fox & Goose at 2pm (my glamorous life).

This does speak for the power of web reporting especially with the images. I wasn't referring to the possibility  deterring the parkers but to having evidence to pass to the law. Were I an anti-bike motorist I'd be trying to collect and post examples of cyclists jumping lights, riding on pavements and being selfish. Has anyone cme across this on the web? Simon

There's always the 'name and shame' approach, as on http://birmingham.mybikelane.com/ .

I also noticed that fixmystreet.com allows you to report parking issues and as that links to a map it has the potential to highlight  hotspots. At the very least, a series of photos may help persuade police to put up more signs like this one!
