Generally it is not too bad really but you get the odd one like this.

Chad - I think your right about the dark evening, although I'm happier to stick to the road.

Ian - Looks as fun as my commute!

Steve, you're a braver man than I am!  I used to do that exact same journey but now jump on the canal at Hay Mills and make my way in to town that way.  I noticed your comments on the link regarding the incidents that have taken place on the Grand Union canal but, in my experience, these are very much confined to the evening jaunt back.  That stretch of canal is a trouble free in the morning and there are plenty of us that use this route.  Coming back along this way late afternoon/early evening is when you may encounter problems.  I've not been that way for a few weeks now so can't comment on whether the 'youth' of Small Heath are still present on the evenings now that the clocks have gone back (they tended to congregate under the bridge at Anderton Road).  I currently use the roads for my return journey but at least I am only running the traffic risk once a day.  Maybe something for you to consider, although I will add that once the geese start breeding you'll have a whole new issue to contend with on the GU!

well as Steve knows I do it 2/3 times a week from Brum to airport but at half 5 !

Thanks Robert.  I think it's a combination of both.

I can’t work out if Steve is very brave or very mad, however he has my respect. I wouldn’t ride on the A45.

watching this is fascinating in how much quicker cycling really is and as for stress no matter what happens on the journey I always find it really relaxing
