Cycling in and around Birmingham England
Comment by Graham Lennard on November 30, 2011 at 23:19 Neat! - shame he just wants to develop car technology - one flaw I see... "15lb of steel spinning between your legs"... noooo thankyou... ;-)
Comment by CKS on December 2, 2011 at 23:38 If you need a 15lb flywheel for a bike imagine the one you'd need for a car! Any saving in fuel would be more than offset by the extra weight.
Comment by Andy White on December 3, 2011 at 12:12 I believe they've had such contraptions on swiss busses for may years. As for 15kg of flywheel on a bike, I think it looks a lot neater than15+kg of electric motor etc on those very heavy and, in my view, ugly electro-assist bikes.
Comment by CKS on December 3, 2011 at 16:45 I reckon an electric bike would travel further than a few hundred yards though!
Comment by Andy White on December 3, 2011 at 17:35 Er... not very far from what I've heard and you cant recharge them as you go so when the battery runs out you might as well give up and call a taxi!
Comment by James Russell on December 3, 2011 at 19:03 They have them on the trains between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction. And much quicker than the old trains without a flywheel, which can give you an idea on weight saving. However it is a little more sophisticated than the one shown.
