If you need a 15lb flywheel for a bike imagine the one you'd need for a car!  Any saving in fuel would be more than offset by the extra weight.

I believe they've had such contraptions on swiss busses for may years.  As for 15kg of flywheel on a bike, I think it looks a lot neater than15+kg of electric motor etc on those very heavy and, in my view, ugly electro-assist bikes.

Er... not very far from what I've heard and  you cant recharge them as you go so when the battery runs out you might as well give up and call a taxi!

They have them on the trains between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction. And much quicker than the old trains without a flywheel, which can give you an idea on weight saving. However it is a little more sophisticated than the one shown.
